Give thanks, for He is good!

What's your favorite holiday? Is it Christmas with all of the festivities, parties, food, gifts and all that goes into the season? For some it might be Easter when we celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus and how God has brought us back to Him. For me it is Thanksgiving. I love Thanksgiving.

I think there are a few reasons why Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I have some great memories as a kid getting together with my cousins and extended family. There was one year we all met at my aunt's house in Indiana and when we woke up on Thanksgiving morning there was about 18 inches of snow on the ground. We all spent the day outside playing in the snow and having a great time together.

My family has always been very traditional with our Thanksgiving meals. The smell of the turkey cooking in the oven just takes over the house. This year as Mia was making a lot of the food and I was helping out where I could, we had a chance to talk and recognize how truly blessed we are. Shortly after this our kids started arriving and we were all together for a great meal. I think this is something else I love about Thanksgiving. While there is a lot of food, there is a simplicity to the day. We get together and just spend time with each other. There was laughing and stories and a chance to reflect on the past year.

We closed the meal with a simple prayer that we taught our children when they were little. The prayer is just Psalm 107:1. Oh, give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. God is good. His mercy has walked my family through many hard times. Today I am thankful for His constant presence in our lives. I pray you recognize how He is present for you in your life each and every day.
