Homecoming!

Homecoming week is an exciting time around high schools all over the country. Valley Lutheran is no different as our students participated in spirit days, family group competitions, athletic events, coronation of the homecoming court, and of course the dance. All of these activities provide a chance for our students to show off their school spirit as well as make some fun memories with friends.

Another aspect of homecoming week I love is that it serves to remind us of who we are. Alumni come back to the school and share in the experience. We have the chance to reflect back while also look to the future. There is a shared community around homecoming that can help bring us together.

In all of this I think about 1 Peter 2:9, "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." Through the experience of homecoming we can be reminded who we are as God's chosen people. He calls us to be different and special. This should bring a certain level of excitement to our lives. As His chosen people I hope we can live everyday with the enthusiasm we have each year during homecoming week.
